Charmingfare Farm's
CSA Internship Program

If you are looking for a unique, educational, hands-on CSA experience, then Charmingfare Farm is the place for you. Charmingfare Garden CSA & Livestock CSA is a subscription based, Community Supported Agriculture program. We sell shares of our harvest and meats to our members who want quality, locally grown or raised, fresh produce or meats, at reasonable prices. We strive to grow and raise our food in the most efficient and healthy manner we can, including limiting our fossil fuel consumption by utilizing our draft animals whenever possible to work our fields.

This internship is for those who are seriously committed to gaining farming skills. Working on a farm is extremely physically demanding! You must be in shape to stand or kneel for long periods of time, bend repeatedly, lift a minimum of 50 pounds, and be able to move and walk at a quick pace.

Work Schedule Time Requirements
Our season begins the first weekend in April and runs until the first week in November. We have several position to fill for the 2011 farming season.

Full Season
( 40 plus hrs per week, April - Nov.)
A small stipend is offered based on experience along with a full share to the Garden CSA and eggs.

Half Season
(30 plus hours per week, May - August)
This is a non-paid position perfect for college students returning to school in the fall. Does include a 1/2 share of the Garden CSA and eggs.

We try to be as flexible as possible when scheduling days and time. Wednesday's are our long day and require all hands on deck. We start picking in the fields at 6:00am in order to be ready for CSA Pick-Ups starting at 4pm and running until 7pm .

How to Apply
Applying is as simple as you emailing us and telling us a little about yourself and why an internship with Charmingfare Farm would be of value to your educational goals.

Overview of CSA Internship Program Educational Value

An internship at Charmingfare Farm is a great opportunity to acquire experience in sustainable vegetable and meat production. We are very committed to making our internships an educational experience.

Planting & Cultivation
Learn basic gardening skills such as seeding, transplanting, hoeing, hand-weeding, mulching, controlling pests, and the companion planting method.

Livestock Production
We raise a number of beef cattle, pigs, and chickens for both meat and eggs here on the farm for our members. Learn basic husbandry skills such as feeding and health monitoring, as well as how to manage pasture lands.

Draft Animal Power
We try hard whenever possible to utilize our teams of Oxen, Mules, and Draft Horses. Interns can help care for these animals, learn how to harness, and even try their hands at driving our teams.

Composting
There’s no better way to fertilize our soil then by composting all of the manure we produce here on the farm. Learn how to construct and manage a compost pile so that we can reap the benefits and give our soils back the nutrients they need to enrich our crop production.

Harvesting
Learn appropriate methods for picking, handling, washing, packaging, and storage of produce, so that we can monitor quality control and freshness for our members.

CSA Pick-Up Days
The perfect way to gain customer service and retail experience. Learn how to set up our farmer's market display. Guests love our chose-your-own pick-up style, so presenting our harvest is a crucial part in allowing our members to easily do so. Interns will gain hands on experience assisting our members from answering questions to picking herbs and flowers.

Marketing
The marketing our products effectively is vital to the success of our CSA program. We will show you how we accomplish this task throughout the season.
