Llamas... are related to camels, but much smaller. They are about the size of a small horse, but much thinner. They have shaggy coats, and faces that look like camels.
Llamas are domestic animals, just like cows and sheep. They have two wild cousins called guanaco and vicuna. The guanaca is about the same size as a llama, while the vicuna is much smaller. The fiber spun from vicuna fur is the finest in the world.
Llamas are used as pack animals, guard animals, for fiber for rugs and rope, and for meat. Llama dung is even used as fuel. They are very useful animals!
The hemoglobin in a llama’s blood is much more efficient at extracting oxygen from the air than most other animals. This lets them live at higher altitudes than are comfortable for other animals
